Course Ratings

How Do I Rank Golf Courses?

There is no right or wrong way of ranking golf courses. It’s personal preference. There will be courses that you love and ones that you hate but your friends may disagree. And that’s fine! If everyone was the same, it would be very boring indeed!

I have made my ratings very simple. 10 being the highest, 2 being the lowest. I bet you’re thinking why 2? Well, after working in golf, no one’s intention is to make a golf course poor. Most workers do the best they can with what they are given. Therefore, I don’t want to rate any course a 0 or 1

Several categories will make up the final score and in turn have a place on my overall ranking list. However, I am fully aware that some areas of a golf round are more important in others. Each category score will be visible.

The perfect all round package. It does not necessarily mean it is the outstanding courses you think of and know but are suitable for the average golfer, not just golf for the higher class of golfer.

Outstanding but just lacking that edge to make it into the top bracket. However, a seriously good golf club which could certainly be bucket list material. You won’t be disappointed.

If you play 8-9 rated courses all your life, you’ve had great golfing experiences. Almost certainly in the top 10% of courses for the area but has something missing to be with the top golf clubs.

This is a middle of the road type golf club. Probably do some things well and others not so much. However, they are known for being ‘decent’ courses to go and play. There is no problem playing a lot of 7-8’s

Tends to be places that either fail to live up to expectation or you think they are going to be lower but turn out to be a hidden gem. They come under the average category and depending on how serious you are about golf will determine how you feel about these courses. Call them Marmite!

Again, this depends on how you feel about golf. However the standard of courses are lower and are probably used for some as a course to ‘have a knock’. Not in stay away territory, more just have low expectations.

I’d say play here if you must. Don’t think these types of clubs are the pinnacle of golf. They are not! However, they can still be enjoyable.

Ok, maybe I’d stay away now! I’d certainly be looking at many other options before going to one of these!
